Growing up from the homework full of arts and crafts of kindergarten to the intense twelve page paper of senior year, there are many things I have learned in my route of life. One of the things I was forced to learn, and one of the things I struggle with most, is how to cope with the stress of school. My second piece shows how when I’m challenged with strong literature, I always try and find a way to incorporate characters and scenes in my childhood that will help me focus on the text better. While being in times of high stress I tend to lean back on things that made me happy and content as a child. I wanted to use butterflies, book pages/words and flowers in each project to help connect each piece with something in my childhood. I started my SI by trying to recreate childhood dreams by using watercolor, but I quickly realized that wasn’t the route I should go through, because I didn’t excel at it. I’m not done yet. I still need to add a picture of me (my printer is terrible), and I might paint the “curtains” to make them stand out. I also need to figure out how to keep the curtains open like that. Materials: book, glue, paper, photo Ideas: my idea is to have me standing on the book “opening the curtains” to relate it back to stories we all read as kids, and how picture books have turned into chapter novels. My idea is that I’m trying to picture the story in a way that was shown in childhood books, like imagination. Processes: I first cut out the middle of a couple of pages to act as a background, then for the first page I only cut a slit down the middle, and on the top and bottom to be able to fold the pieces too look like curtains. I then glued it all together.
